  • Tennis Playground – Sri Penaga Condo

Tennis Playground – Sri Penaga Condo

Here’s some court pictures from Sri Penaga, one of the earliest condominium in Bukit Bandaraya, Bangsar. Situated right across the street from Bangsar Shopping Complex, this condominium is a favourite residential place among expatriates in Kuala Lumpur. The courts has been just resurfaced 2 weeks before the pictures below are taken. I was here in the morning so I dont know about the lighting condition at night but I would rate the court surface at 10 out of 10 as it is still fresh & new. My only complaint would be the rather narrow side room outside the double’s alley which would be a problem if doubles tennis are being played on the court.

  • Tennis Playground – Opal Damansara

    Tennis Playground – Opal Damansara

Had a chance to test out this court Opal Damansara at Sunway Damansara recently. This condo is located near The Club & is easily accessible via Penchala link & LDP highway. The condo is loaded with facilities like pool, badminton court & gym. According to one of the tenant that I’m with during the visit, no one really uses the court here. As you see from the pictures, the court is in good shape but I didnt test out the lightings though. I would rate the court 8/10, but it would be higher if it is not for the sun vertical direction which makes one side of the court totally impossible to play on during sunset & sunrise. Thats the first thing that you need to check whenever u build a tennis court, the sun’s direction. Tennis court aside, the condo here are beautiful, something that your would expect from a Rm600,000 to Rm700,000 semi furnished condo.

  • Tennis Playground – Kiaramas Cendana Condo

Tennis Playground – Kiaramas Cendana Condo

This playground belongs to a private condominium located at Bukit Kiara, Kuala Lumpur. There are many high rise apartments & condo in Bukit Kiara & a lot of them has tennis courts. There are two hard courts here, they are located above the condo’s carpark & the surrounding are full of greeneries as you can see from the picture. The court side facilities are nice, with a barbecue area & a shade rest area with fans & lights. Its a good place to have a nice tennis gathering. The court blue paint seems to become powdery & are coming out of the surface. I find this problem consistent with most tennis courts found on medium to high cost condos around the city. Maybe they’re made by the same court construction company? I would rate the courts here 8 out of 10 at the time of this posting. But one court has a more faded blue than the other, maybe they’re surfaced at a different time. I dont know about the night lighting condition as I havent been here during the night yet. The official site of this condo is at kiaramascendanacondo.com Enjoy the pictures below:

  • Tennis Playground – Kompleks Sukan Datuk Keramat

Tennis Playground – Kompleks Sukan Datuk Keramat

The Datuk Keramat sports complex is located at Jalan Jelatek which is along Jalan Ampang. This complex is less than 7 minutes drive from KLCC if the traffic is free flowing. Aside from 2 usable tennis courts, there are also indoor badminton courts. This complex is owned by DBKL (Kuala Lumpur City Hall) & it is for public rental.

I dont know about the night lighting here as I havent been here during night time. There are actually 3 tennis courts here but only 2 of them are usable. The courts here are badly located because it is next to a busy road. This place is filled with noise & dust pollution all the time. Accessibility is good because there is a LRT station right across the road & it is easy to find this place if you’re coming from Jalan Ampang via KLCC. The court surface is fine on both courts buy the lines are faded. I would rate the courts here 7/10 but since it is next to a busy road & you can actually hit balls over the fence onto traffic, I think a rating of 3/10 would be fair.

To book the courts, you can call 03-4251 4966 . Check out the pictures of the courts below:

  • Tennis Playground – University of Nottingham

Tennis Playground – University of Nottingham

Here’s a review of a pair of tennis courts located at University of Nottingham, Semenyih, Kajang, Selangor. The courts here are for students only & it is located at the university’s sports center. I’ve been to many institution of higher learning in Klang Valley & most of them has tennis courts but the courts here at Nottingham are definitely not the best.

The surface paint here are almost white washed by the sun & it has a very pale green look now. Its kinda hard to look at the lines as the color of the court is almost white. Court surface condition aside from the color is fine. Lights are ok but can be better with more lights in between of both courts & proper height & angle tuning. One thing I like about the courts here are the ample space from baseline to the back fence. It will be a torture to play on these courts on a sunny day as there a no tree shade & the location of the courts are on top of a small hill…. sorta like a frying pan on a stove.I would rate the courts here 6.5/10.

One thing to learn from building nice tennis courts is never paint the whole tennis playing area with the same color like the ones here in Nottingam University. As time goes by, color will fade off especially if it is an outdoor court & with a single color to the whole area, sooner or later it will pale out & the white lines wont be contrasting anymore for the eyes to see. Always go for 2 color court like the ones at the National tennis center in Jalan Duta which is brick red & dark green because even if the lines fade off, your eyes can still see the baseline distance because of the bi-color court.

  • Tennis Playground – PJ Club

    Tennis Playground – PJ Club

Here’s a pair of very nice private club courts located at Dataran PJ, Petaling Jaya, Selangor. Unfortunately it is for members of PJ Club only. It is located right next to the football field at dataran PJ and is close to the famous 24 hours A&W restaurant in front of Amcorp mall (check the green arrow on the google map above). The location of this place are quite well known to folks in Petaling Jaya & the courts here are surrounded by some nice greeneries like the football field & some trees.

Night lighting is quite ok. The courts has lotsa chairs & benches. Court, net post & net quality is nice & good. I would rate these courts here 8 out of 10. It would be nicer if the fencing is wider because it can get tight on doubles especially if a short angle ball is hit towards the doubles alley. These courts would have been great if they’re public courts as the location is quite nice with a LRT station nearby. Anyway, for a public court that is closeby, you can check out Astaka which is run by MBPJ. It will be featured here on tennis.my in the future.

  • Tennis Playground – Kompleks Sukan PKNS

Tennis Playground – Kompleks Sukan PKNS

Kompleks Sukan PKNS is located at Kelana Jaya, Selangor. It is located nearby a more famous Tennis facility which is the MBPJ tennis courts. The tennis courts here are open for public booking, for further inquiries please call 017-682 0620 (Nizam). The courts here are located inside the PKNS sports complex & there is a football field & badminton hall as well. There are shower rooms but all of the shower heads has been stolen (LoL).

The night lighting here is pretty good & is on par with the courts at Duta tennis centre. Out of 5 tennis courts here, 2 are quite new & in nice condition, the other 3 are very rough & dirty. Your balls would turn black pretty fast if you were to play at the other 3 courts so make so you book the 2 nice ones. I would rate the 2 nice courts & the night lighting here for 10/10 if not for the problems below:

    1. The location of the courts are totally wrong for tennis. It is sitting right beside the busy LDP highway & rather close to the roadside as well. The air quality here are polluted by the heavy traffic & because the highway are elevated above the courts, dust particles would land & accumalate on the courts & make them dirty through time. A lot of times during play, some car with loud exhaust would blast by & caused a lot of sound interference.

    2. There are lotsa holes on the fencing of the 2 nice courts & on some higher part of the fencing on the side court, the fence wires are torn & you would experience a lot of balls flying out of the court if you were to use that court.

The plus point on the courts here are that they’re easier to book & a lot less hassle than booking the MBPJ courts. To reach the courts here if you’re from KL, just drive to federal highway & go up the penang bridge after guiness & turn right into LDP. Go straight & pass Western Digital factory on your left & take the first left turn after you come down the Western Digital flyover. After the left turn, take the first right near the houses/field & you’re there already.
