Tennis Playground – University of Nottingham

Here’s a review of a pair of tennis courts located at University of Nottingham, Semenyih, Kajang, Selangor. The courts here are for students only & it is located at the university’s sports center. I’ve been to many institution of higher learning in Klang Valley & most of them has tennis courts but the courts here at Nottingham are definitely not the best.

The surface paint here are almost white washed by the sun & it has a very pale green look now. Its kinda hard to look at the lines as the color of the court is almost white. Court surface condition aside from the color is fine. Lights are ok but can be better with more lights in between of both courts & proper height & angle tuning. One thing I like about the courts here are the ample space from baseline to the back fence. It will be a torture to play on these courts on a sunny day as there a no tree shade & the location of the courts are on top of a small hill…. sorta like a frying pan on a stove.I would rate the courts here 6.5/10.

One thing to learn from building nice tennis courts is never paint the whole tennis playing area with the same color like the ones here in Nottingam University. As time goes by, color will fade off especially if it is an outdoor court & with a single color to the whole area, sooner or later it will pale out & the white lines wont be contrasting anymore for the eyes to see. Always go for 2 color court like the ones at the National tennis center in Jalan Duta which is brick red & dark green because even if the lines fade off, your eyes can still see the baseline distance because of the bi-color court.

    Tennis Playground – SLGCC

Sungai Long Golf & Country Club is located at Cheras, Kajang which is around 30 mins drive from Kuala Lumpur city centre. This club is more well known for it’s Jack Nicklaus designed 18 hole golf course. There are two tennis courts here, one newly resurfaced 5 months ago from the time of this posting. The new court is perfect, I would rate it 10 out of 10 if not for the very distracting pool area & golf course on both ends of the tennis court fencing. If they were to cover the fencing with those Green cloth mesh then it would be fine. There are a row of houses right next to the court area and the tennis courts are next to a basketball court which is not good if there are people playing basketball as there are no fencing between them.

I dont know about the night lighting as I’ve only been here on daytime. Overall I would rate the court here 9 out of 10. This would be a great club to join if you’re into golfing as well. There are other normal club facilities like badminton, gym, squash & swimming pool. The club’s website is at www.slgcc.com.my & you can reach the club with the map below:

Here are some latest pictures from this wonderful public court which is in the middle of Kuala Lumpur. • Djokovic’s actual Wimbledon 2011 racquet

    Djokovic’s actual Wimbledon 2011 racquet

If you guys have watched the 2011 Wimbledon Finals recently, you will noticed that Novak threw 4 of his actual racquet into the crowd after winning the tournament against Rafa Nadal. Well, one of them was auctioned off ebay UK for 4000 USD & below are the actual pictures. The bid was won by our Federer’s kicks contributor, Mr.FabFed. Actual specs will come later. As you can see from the pictures, it is not the same with a retail HEAD IG Speed MP 18×20… so to those of you who bought the retail version in order to play like Djoko, sorry.. you are using the wrong racquet.. LOL!!

  • Misaki Doi & Srixon

    Misaki Doi & Srixon

During the recent Wimbledon 2011 Grand Slam, most of you tennis fans here have seen Misaki Doi powering into the third round. It was certainly her greatest achivement so far on tour. At 5 feet 3 inches tall and weighing at 52kg, she’s a pocketful of dynamite. ‘Explosive’ is what I would call her game, powering into shots with her entire body, off the ground all the time on her serve & superb forehand, she is definitely the player to watch if you’re into modern attacking footwork.

With an agressive attitude like Li Na and an all court attacking game like Federer, I will foresee a lot of her opponents getting bombed by her power game in the near future. Check out the youtube video on top to sample her fierce explosive game against a grand slam double’s champion, Zheng Jie at Wimbledon. Eventually she fell to a semifinalist, the ever smiling Sabine Lisicki, during the tournament.

Misaki’s weapon of choice is a rare one, a Srixon Revo X 2.0, something that you will not see in these shores. Catering for the japanese market, Srixon racquets are developed by Dunlop & they are better known as a golf brand. You can check out their range of the gears at their website: www.srixon-tennis.com. Below are some of Miss Doi’s picture gathered from all around the internet… enjoy!
