| Post subject: | torn knee acl |
i tore my left knee acl 9 years ago ...did a constructive surgery 7 years ago ... then 2002 i tore it again and ever since i only do weight training on the surrounding muscles to keep it stabilsed recently started playing tennis and just learning & loving it im a right hander and i play a so-so double handed back hand(2bh)...i feel that doing 2bh is stressing my left knee more...at times my knee 'will bulge with fluids' (dont get me wrong) like inflame but not swollen as the fluids restrict my knee movement... should i go for the corrective surgery 2nd time, or should i change to a single backhand, or do non of the above and continue playing table tennis (but its hard to shake off tennis once its in the blood)or other suggestions not mention... really like to hear other opinions besides the orthopedic surgeon who recommended corrective surgery ...

it cost some where like RM12k including post surgery treatment, physiotheraphy etc... fourtunately its all covered by my employer guarantee letter ...unfortunately no outdoor activities for 6 months ...no more rugby after that, the funny thing is i got injured while training/playing touch rugby and of all the real rugby games ive played no injuries is as serious this ....that was seven years ago...now its probably much costlier ...

Thats the reason why we all should buy health insurance. I've seen videos on ACL tear & a lot of them happened in a real casual manner, like a miss step while picking up a ball or just a normal turn & the knee collapsed. I pray to God that I will not get this type of injury... it's the worst kind & without corrective surgery, you will never be the same again. |

the thing is, even with the corrective surgery it wont feel the same, either the body or in the head...those few months after surgery were difficult...lost most of the muscle fibre, it feels more like walking only with the right leg...when progress into recovery there is still the mental block due to the injury trauma....well tihs (reverse spellings) happens...it was written...but the first was the worst, the second was swell ...you guys better pray not to get injured with any kind of ligaments, a broken leg is a better injury than tear a ligament...

True that... but if u break a leg, u might break the ligaments as well too! I know a player with a broken leg plus ACL at the same time.

for sure we'll use the non injury knee much more after all the trauma... some how there is possibilty of injuring the other knee as well...like mine it did injured but minor one on the right knee, but luckily was swift in prevention, that is why physiothrerapy is very important and building back the muscle supporting the lower limb...at least for me it did... |
